Finish it up Friday returns!

Welcome to finish it up Friday! It's good to be back to this business of finishing. I need the accountability, as we saw earlier this week. I so appreciate those of you who have chimed in expressing your excitement about this. That helps so much. Thank you!

I do want to run a tidy little linky party, so I decided to set a few guidelines.

Finish it up Friday is for the purpose of encouraging each other as we work toward finishing up our WIPs and UFOs. I will keep the linky open for 24 hours from posting time each week. This is not a place to advertise a giveaway, your latest tutorial or a new pattern for sale. I'd like to keep this as non-commercial as possible. Thank you in advance for respecting those parameters.
For my finish this week I'm happy to share my drano quilt top! I finished piecing the top last night at 9pm or so. 12 days, 1715 pieces, countless hours sewing, and fabrics too numerous to mention. It felt like a marathon sewing event!

I (kinda) got obsessed with this project. Then I got burned out sewing all those pieces together. I even dreamed about this quilt. (not sure if that is good or bad?) I forced myself to push through and finish the top. For some reason I had this inkling that if I set it aside I might never return to it...and I can't afford another WIP at this point! I'm glad I persevered. I can (and I have) just sat and stared at it with a huge grin on my face. I love the magic of a scrappy quilt, you know???

Now, I'm so ready to sew something else! :)

How about you? Do you have a finish to share? Please link up here with your finish and then go cheer on others in their finishes as well. Thanks for joining me!

Happy Friday to you!

It looks fantastic!! I can't believe how many little pieces are in there... I'm collecting 2.5" scraps in a jar but I might need to get a bigger jar!!

Thanks for the return of finish it up Friday. I got a binding done last night so I could join in the fun. It is OK to dream about your quilt. I am trying to cut back on white bread and was dreaming of stacks of bread and butter this week. I wish I was dreaming of my quilts.

I like your name "Drano" better than "Scrap Vomit", I intend to make one, have the squares cut mostly, but haven't started sewing yet. Yours looks great.

That is one heck of a lot of little squares.

I really like your scrap quilt! It is very eye-catching.

You have inspired me to empty my scrap bins. I have worked for 6 hours this week cutting my scraps to 2.5 in squares. I really should be quilting my ragged squares quilt but it's nice to have an empty tote once. Please keep the inspiration coming!

Wow, what a fabulous finish! I'm sure it would have taken me 12 month to finish that one, not 12 days! And thanks for bringing back the linky party, that's so motivating to get stuff done!

Thanks for the return of finish it up Friday. I get inspiration from seeing finished projects!

How fun that you are doing the Friday link up again! Your quilt top is fantastic! I've been saving some small scraps for a patchwork quilt - someday!

Great job! It's fabulous!!

Thanks for restarting Finish it Up Friday. I need to get on the bandwagon this time. Maybe I'll get something finished next week after my sewing retreat. At least that's the plan!

Scrappy quilts are my favorite! And yes, I know the feeling of not wanting to stop- because I won't want to start again. =)

I've just started organizing my fabric into colors, and your quilt is such a fun inspiration. I need to make some truly scrappy quilts. Don't feel like I can call myself an official quilter until I do. Well done - the Drano quilt is lovely.

I'm cutting out 1.5 inch scraps as I go and am working on a scrap quilt as I go but I may dig into 2.5 inch scraps soon! Nice finish!

Not that I ever doubt any of your choices, but I was kind of wondering what this quilt would look like when you started it. The quilt looks so good!!! I'm glad you shared it.

Your quilt is unbelievable! I don't know how you line up all the squares so perfectly, if I tried it would be SO wonky! And thanks for finish it up Friday, it's the best motivation to get stuff done, love it!

Your quilt top looks wonderful.

I too love working with the little squares. I have one in black and white I have been working off and on for MONTHS. Maybe I will get it finished to show off at one of your Finish It Up Fridays. I so needed this. Thanks for hosting again.

It's wonderful, Amanda Jean! I could never finish a quilt in 12 days. That amazes me! And it's so beautiful! Great job.

I love this and really want to make one, too. Yours really turned out nice. What size are your squares?

I love the Linky idea. I love seeing what everyone is doing.

Love the Drano quilt. Who would have thunk you could put all those various fabrics together and make a beautiful quilt. You have a special talent! Love you for sharing!

I loved this when Katy made the Scrap Vomit quilt so I started two stacks of 2.5" squares to make one for each of my kids and I love how your Drano quilt came out too....makes saving all those squares totally worth it!;)

amy said...

congrats on such a big finish!!!! sometimes i find my enthusiasm for a quilt waxes and wanes throughout the project, so it's always nice when those ones get done.

This was totally my experience with the Scrap Vomit quilt as well!! I love mine so much and can't stop grinning at it! I love the colors in yours, and I'm really excited to make another one!

I also thought It might be lost on top of the washer with my other WIP's and then dreamed about it too! You're not the only one!

How are you going to quilt it?

Live a Colorful Life said...

This is just fabulous! I really want to do one of these (I think....), but first I need to finish the 36-patch and my charm swap, don't you think??

This is gorgeous and I can't believe you got it done in 12 days!!

Question: Do you make this by making squares with the pattern, squares with scraps, and then sew them all together? My brain still tries to figure out the 'pattern' in quilts. I love this one! It was a lot of work, but I can see it would have a lot of pride facort. And fun to look at when you're bundled up in it.

Love this quilt!!! Looking forward to linking up next Friday :)

Hi,

That is awesome. I love it. I am fairly new to quilting and sewing for that matter. I only started a year ago.

Can you explain this kinky thing for me as I am new to Blogger too and have no idea about links.

Have a lovely weekend.

Fun.
I'm thinking a name with "pixel" in it would also be appropriate.

So pleased Finish It Up Fridays are back. It's a real motivation for me not only to get projects done, but also to keep my blog posts on a roll. Something I have not been doing all summer...

Annalia said...

I can tell I missed something...where does the name "drano" come from? I'm totally overwhelmed just looking at it, so kudos for finishing! Maybe I can complete something for next week! ;)

Terriaw said...

Great quilt top. Love those pops of dark contrast. Looks like Finish It Friday was missed, after seeing all these entries! I finished an illustration; does that count? It consumed so much of my time!

So glad to see this is back. I always love to see your finishes. I have been thinking about doing a scrappy quilt similar to what you did. Maybe I will give it a try now that you got one done.
