Nap Like an Egyptian quilt

Welcome to finish it up Friday! Today is also my day on the RJR Solids Blog Hop brought to you by Brenda of Pink Castle Fabrics and RJR Fabrics.
I had a chance to play with the cotton supreme solids from RJR and I was impressed. The fabric has a nice weight to it (not too thick, not too thin), it is easy to work with (very little fraying, which is super!) and the quality is fantastic (very smooth with no blemishes). I was also impressed with the colors--so vibrant and pretty!
It took me several weeks to decide what to use these pretties for! After much deliberation, I combined the solid bundle with some Anna Maria fabrics from my stash. I sewed them up using Cheryl's pattern Nap Like an Egyptian from Sunday Morning Quilts.
I usually don't work with this many saturated colors at once, (or triangles, for that matter!) but it was a nice change of pace. You may have noticed that some orange fabric worked it's way into the mix. After several blocks things were looking kind of....predictable. The orange "stirs the pot" just a bit, but in a good way!
I quilted it with straight lines to echo the large triangles. I washed and dried it and it puckered up in an unattractive manner. So, I went back and quilted around each small center triangle, then buried about a million thread ends. The additional quilting seemed to help tame the puckering. I could probably add even more quilting, but I think I'm done! After making 200+ quilts I learn a lesson every time. (Unfortunately, some of those lessons have to be learned more than once. Doh!)
The quilt measures about 63" x 70" or so. It's nice lap size and it's already super soft and snuggly!

I'm happy to be offering up a fat quarter bundle of the Cotton Supreme Solids to one of my lucky readers. This bundle features the same solid fabrics I used in my quilt (plus white).
The specific colors (from top to bottom) are:
#33 Optical White
#181 Rhododendron
#348 Neon (it IS bright!)
#349 Aloe Verde
#292 Turks and Caicos
#328 Bora Bora
#333 Bougainvillea
#341 Stormy Night

If you would like to win this bundle, please leave me a comment in this post. You can tell me what your favorite day of the week is, your favorite color, your favorite snack, your favorite beverage, your favorite fabric line, your favorite WIP....anything along those lines....just don't say "pick me", please! Thanks a bunch. :)

Now, if you would like to link up your finishes, it's time! Thanks for joining me for finish it up Friday!

My favorite color is orange.
My color philosophy (yes my house is quite colorful)
Beige is not a color.
If colors are the same intensity they match.
Pastels are for the weak! : )

I am a magpie when it comes to prints so my solids stash could use a boost. Thanks for the opportunity!

My favorite work in progress is a paper-piecing stars quilt. I just finished piecing the top last night. It's my first paper-piecing project, and it's my first project with all solids. I'm loving how it's turning out! (I might actually have to keep this one, too, instead of giving it away.)

Nice to see the fabrics in action as well as in a bundle, they go so well together and with the bold prints too. My favourite block is Flying Geese.

My favorite color is red - to me it's a neutral. I do want to make something with more modern fabrics though. All those bright prints just come naturally to me.

Wow, I have missed you! I am off blogging myself at the moment. Just wondering if there is any point! Not sure if it is for me... My favourite day of the week is Saturday. My family of 4 is all together and we do things together and hang out and eat our meals together and aren't rushing.

What a pretty quilt! I love Nap Like an Egyptian. Not that I've ever made it, but I'd love to try it some time. I have to say my favourite colour is green, but orange and purple are also pretty high up there.

Love those fabrics and the description of the quality! Here is a different favorite...my favorite campground is Twin Shores in Darnley, PrinceEdward Island, Canada.

My favourite colour is purple, and I have to try not to put it into every single quilt I make!

My favourite place is St Ives in Cornwall (UK). I'm there now and as I paperpiece hexagons for a WIP I can look out the window and see just about all those colours in the landscape around me. The shades of blue echo the sea when the sun comes out; the green and neon are reflected in the hillside and even the sand. I can see the rhododendron and bougainvillea in the sunset and I've certainly seen one or two stormy nights down here! St Ives is a place for art in all media and these colours capture it perfectly. I can feel another WIP coming on :)

I love your blog. I think I might try the block quilt you posted a couple days ago with the white border for my daughter's two little sisters at college.

I don't really have a favorite day of the week. I love my job and I also love my home life, so it all balances out. I try to view each day as a blessing. I do love the colors yellow and green especially well. As far as other favorites, chocolate, wine, cheese, fun times spent with girl friends, quilting, and lovely crinkly quilty goodness in a freshly washed new quilt!!

I love the way the Nap Like an Egyptian turned out!! I'd love to use those yummy solids with some of my crazy cat fabric stash. Maybe I'll use my new GO! isosceles triangle die.

My favorite vacation is: Stay at my brother's home to babysit for his cat while he's out of town. I spend the entire week sewing, blogging, drinking coffee, watching movies and taking long walks! It's so refreshing and relaxing,

I love that very interesting shade of green. Love how that solids frame the prints in your quilt.

A few of my favorite things are Fridays, coffee, and planning in my head. When I saw your beautiful colorful quilt, I looked at my stash. It is seriously lacking solid colors and bold prints, although a lot of my fabric read as solid. I have always loved solid color quilts, but I have been told they are boring. I think NOT! Design then becomes the visual draw.

I love the quilt. The colors really pop. I can see all kinds of quilts using any of these colors. My favorite is the purple!

My favorite name from the bundle is #292 Turks and Caicos. Thanks for reminding me about this great pattern that can showcase larger prints! Just what I was looking for to use up some amy butler prints

Love your quilt because of the solids. They really make it sparkle. Favorite day of the week: any day hubby goes fishing 'cuz there's no meals to cook and I can sew all day long!

I seem to be addicted to solids and prints with white these days. This is a great opportunity to think about taking my fabric selections in another direction for a change.

I love my stash of fabric scraps! They are organized by color, but all the different patterns makes them so interesting to look at! Almost harder to use up than my stash!

Great quilt. The triangles are worth the extra effort. I am currently loving orange as a favorite color.
